అంటార్కిటికాలో మంచుతో కప్పబడిన అందమైన ప్రదేశంలో పిప్ అనే ఒక చిన్న పెంగ్విన్ ఉండేది. అది తన గుంపులోనే అతి చిన్న పెంగ్విన్. మిగతా పెంగ్విన్లు వేగంగా ఈదుతూ చేపలను పట్టేవి. కానీ పిప్‌కు లోతైన నీరు అంటే చాలా భయం. " ఒక రోజు... నేను కూడా ధైర్యంగా మారతాను ," అని తనలో తాను అనుకునేది. ప్రతి ఉదయం పెద్ద పెంగ్విన్లు సముద్రంలోకి దూకి చేపలు పట్టడం చూసేది. వాటిలా తాను కూడా వెళ్లాలని అనిపించేది... కానీ భయం తన అడుగులను ఆపేసేది. ఒక రోజు అకస్మాత్తుగా భారీ మంచు తుఫాను వచ్చింది. చల్లని గాలి బలంగా వీచింది. చుట్టూ మంచు మాత్రమే కనిపించింది. కొద్దిసేపటి తర్వాత తుఫాను ఆగింది. ఒక చిన్న సీల్ పిల్ల రెండు పెద్ద మంచు ముక్కల మధ్య ఇరుక్కుపోయి ఏడుస్తూ కనిపించింది. " ఎవరైనా... నన్ను కాపాడండి !" అని అది అరిచింది. పెద్ద పెంగ్విన్లు అప్పటికే చాలా దూరంలో చేపల కోసం వెళ్లిపోయాయి. అక్కడ ఉన్నది ఒక్క పిప్ మాత్రమే. పిప్ మంచు నీటిని చూసింది. దాని గుండె వేగంగా కొట్టుకుంది. అప్పుడే తన అమ్మమ్మ చెప్పిన మాట గుర్తొచ్చింది. "ధైర్యం అంటే భయం లేకపోవడం కాదు... భయం ఉన్నా సరైన పని చేయడం." పిప్ గట్టిగా ఊపిరి పీల్...

ఎన్నో సంవత్సరాల క్రితం... ఒక ప్రశాంతమైన చిన్న గ్రామంలో... ఒక భారీ పురాతన మర్రి చెట్టు ఉండేది. అందరూ దాన్ని సాధారణ చెట్టేనని అనుకునేవారు. కానీ... శతాబ్దాలుగా దాచుకున్న ఒక మాయా రహస్యం దానిలో ఉందని ఎవరికీ తెలియదు. ఒక అందమైన ఉదయం... అరూ అనే ఏడేళ్ల చిన్న బాలుడు ఆ పెద్ద మర్రి చెట్టు వైపు నడుస్తూ వెళ్లాడు. అతను దగ్గరికి రాగానే... చల్లని గాలి మెల్లగా వీచింది. చెట్టు ఆకులు సూర్యకాంతిలో మెరిసిపోతూ అందంగా కదిలాయి. అంతలో... ఒక అద్భుతం జరిగింది. ఆ పెద్ద మర్రి చెట్టు మెల్లగా తన దయతో నిండిన ప్రకాశించే కళ్లను తెరిచి... చిరునవ్వు నవ్వింది. అరూ ఆశ్చర్యంతో నిలిచిపోయాడు. తన కళ్లను తానే నమ్మలేక... "చెట్లు కూడా మాట్లాడతాయా?" అని అడిగాడు. ఆ వృద్ధ మర్రి చెట్టు ప్రేమగా నవ్వుతూ... "మంచి మనసున్న పిల్లలతో మాత్రమే నేను మాట్లాడుతాను" అని చెప్పింది. ఆ తరువాత... ప్రతి రోజూ తాను అలసిపోయిన ప్రయాణికులకు నీడను ఇస్తానని... పక్షులకు, ఉడుతలకు సురక్షితమైన నివాసాన్ని కల్పిస్తానని... అందరికీ స్వచ్ఛమైన గాలిని అందిస్తానని... ప్రతిఫలంగా ఏమీ ఆశించనని చెప్పింది. అరూ ఆ మాటలు శ్రద్ధగా వింటుండగా... కొంతమంది గ్రామస్...
